Solving weird issues with Poser by removing the preferences

If Poser crashes or starts behaving oddly for no apparent reason, it may be that its preference files have been damaged or corrupted. Removing the damaged files will restore Poser to its factory default settings and may fix problems that won't go away otherwise. This won't remove any additional figures, props or poses that you might have installed.

To remove preferences you must shut down Poser first. You then can Move (Cut and Paste) the prefs files from their location in the folders (as described below) to a New Folder on your Desktop if you wish to back up these file, or you can delete the entire Poser preference folder altogether. If you wish to back up the specific files, then the specific files to back up are:

Poser Prefs(MAC)/Poser.ini(WIN)
Poser UI Prefsxxxxx.xml

Poser will rebuild these files the next time you start the program.

NOTE: If you use Multiple Runtimes, the LibraryPref.xml contains your External Runtime Links for your Libraries. You can Copy it back after testing to see if the issue is resolved. If the figure required to check is in an External Runtime, you will need to add that one Runtime back within the Poser application to see if the problem is resolved this way.

Poser 6 and Older

Versions of Poser prior to 7 store their preferences in the main application folder under:

On Mac, you'd go into the APPLICATIONS folder and browse into the Poser folder, open the Runtime and go into the prefs folder, and move the proper files.

In Windows, navigate into the PROGRAM FILES folder and locate the proper Poser folder, then browse into its Runtime, open the prefs folder and move the proper files.

MAC Poser 7/8/9 & Poser Pro 2010/2012

Poser places the Preference Files in the:

HD > Users > (username) > Library > Preferences > Poser (or Poser Pro) folder.

MAC Poser 10 & Poser Pro 2014

Poser 10 and Poser Pro 2014 place the Preference Files in the:

HD > Users > (username) > Library > Application Support > Poser (or Poser Pro) > 10 folder.

You can find the Poser Preferences files on Windows XP Operating Systems in the

C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Poser (or Poser Pro)

folder. The UI Preference file will be in the English Sub Folder.

On Vista and up they will be in the

Computer\Local Disk C\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Poser (or Poser Pro)

folder, and the UI Preference will be in the English SubFolder.

WINDOWS: I do not see these folders....

By default, some of these folders are Hidden. To view these Folders, launch Control Panel and select Folder Options.

Select the "View" Tab at the top and place the dot in the "Show hidden files and folders" option and click OK.
